Have you heard of our support groups, CAMI (Christians Afflicted with Mental Illness)?

 Denial?

Let's not do this!

Here is a picture that to me, represents the evangelical church when it comes to mental illness.

You cannot fight these mental illnesses alone:
Major depression recurrent
Bipolar disorder
Schizo-affective disorder
Panic disorder
Obsessive compulsive disorder
Schizophrenia and others.

Our family members, friends and sometimes we, ourselves are suffering with some of the most painful diseases known to mankind and we are doing it alone!
WHY? Why do we have to? There is NO SHAME to being sick with a mental disease. Ask for our CAMI (Christians Afflicted with Mental Illness) bracelets that say "CAMI-NO SHAME." We will include one with every book purchased. If you want to attend a CAMI group in Boca Raton, Florida, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada or Grand Rapids, Michigan, please respond to this blog. Other CAMI groups are starting up and looking for leaders in the United States and Canada.SB

CAMI Group Testimonial

Tonight I was able to Skype into a CAMI support group that is held every Thursday night in Boca Raton, Florida. This group has become my family-my people, my lifeline. We opened in prayer and then spent some time talking about Nebuchadnezzar when he lost his mind and reasoning for 7 years-he was delusional. Turning to 2 Thessalonians 2, we compared his delusion to the delusion that will be rampant in the end times. Nebuchadnezzar's delusion had a definite end. For many of us who suffer from debilitating mental illness, the battle will continue all our life long. But as Richard Sibbes explains in his famous treatise on Isaiah 42:3, Christ will not break His bruised reeds--these are beautiful words from Isaiah that could easily describe depression. His heart is with His struggling lambs. Once again the group reiterated the importance of helping others who struggle with these illnesses of the mind-so few care for these hurting lambs. Experiences, questions and concerns were shared. Finally we shared prayer requests and prayed with and for one another. Thank you Lord for these people. Despite living on opposite sides of the continent, you have linked us together. You knew I needed them. Please let me be a blessing to them as well.
Anita Gordon, CAMI member and group leader. Alberta, Canada.
